Plot summary
Michael Chambers, a recovering gambling addict, returns to his hometown for his mother's remarriage. He had fled years earlier, leaving his wife, Rachel, to sort out the debts he ran up, and now he wants to rebuild his ties with relatives, friends and the people who bear him a grudge. His mother's new husband gives him work driving an armored car, and Michael finds himself drawn back to Rachel, who is involved with Tommy Dundee, a hoodlum. When Dundee catches the two of them together, Michael puts together a plan to steal a payroll that the armored car company transports.
