Plot summary
Thirteen-year-old Allie Thompson lives in Los Angeles with her family, and Sam Kwan is her best friend. The last day of school before Christmas vacation is near and Allie has not started the essay that is due. A bike ride through the woods leads the girls to a weather machine in a shack, which they carry home. Allie persuades Sam to use it, hoping the snow will give them a day off. The machine belongs to Santa Claus, and Mrs. Claus sends the elves Crumpet and Sparky to help him.
