Plot summary
Ariel lives far from Buenos Aires when his father Usher summons him home to Once, the Jewish quarter where Ariel spent his youth. The visit falls during Purim, and the neighborhood is busy with the holiday. Usher runs a charity and is a respected figure in the close-knit community, but he was often absent while Ariel was growing up, bound to the quorum of ten men that Jewish funerals require. Over seven days Ariel tries to reach his father and is drawn into the charity's commitments. There he meets Eva, whose independent spirit makes him confront the traditions that had separated him from his father.
