Plot summary
Luna Bay is where the Surfer grew up surfing, and the house above the beach belonged to his father. He brings his teenage son there to surf and to see the house, which he is trying to buy. Scally and a group of local surfers who claim the beach for residents turn them away, so the Surfer drives his son back to his mother and returns to the parking lot alone. He needs more than a million dollars to outbid another buyer before Christmas, and his real estate agent and his estranged wife both tell him to give up on the house. His wife says she is engaged and expecting a baby. In the lot he notices the Bum, who lives in a broken-down station wagon and is harassed by the beach crowd.
