Plot summary
Around the end of 1941, a small group of Soviet soldiers is leaving the encirclement around Vyazma and trying to reach their own. Their path crosses that of a special Wehrmacht unit, and the meeting becomes a fight they are not equipped to win. One of the men is a lone-wolf fighter known as the Red Ghost. Stories about him have spread: he picks off Nazi soldiers one at a time, disappears into the forest, and is said to have returned from the dead. Across the line is Braun, a soldier of the special unit who studies tactics and means to be the best in the field.

- Actor Wolfgang Cerny was initially offered a small role as a Nazi in the film, but he found it boring and one-dimensional, so the character was completely rewritten into Braun, a super-soldier who is into tactics and is determined to be the best possible soldier.
- The scenery for the film was created a year before the start of official filming, but inappropriate weather conditions forced the crew's work to be postponed for nine months; filming took place in a severe frost in the winter of 2017-2018 in one of the deserted settlements of the Mosalsky District.
