Plot summary

Charlie Chaplin becomes one of Hollywood's best known performers and stays there for decades. He comes from the slums of Victorian London. The character he plays on stage and the way the press presents him shape how the public sees him, while his private life stays out of sight. Much of the account comes from a long interview he gives to Life magazine in 1966, with archive recordings, home movies and restored prints of his films.
