Plot summary
Jamie Benjamin is twelve and lives in Toronto, where other children tease him and his parents pay him little attention. He talks with Teddy, his stuffed bear, and the bear talks back. On the edge of puberty Jamie takes an interest in girls, so when his parents travel on business and leave Sandy O'Reilly, a psychology student, to look after him, he becomes infatuated with her. He shows Sandy the pit he found in the forest, home to creatures he calls Trogs and feeds with raw meat.

- Screenwriter Ian A. Stuart's original script made Jamie 8 or 9 years old and the Tra-la-logs imaginary creatures; when director Lew Lehman signed on, he aged the boy up, made the monsters real and added humor, and Stuart was unhappy with the finished film.
