Plot summary
In the 1890s, Captain Sam Jackson owns the River Queen, a showboat that travels the Mississippi River with a company of performers. At Ironville he takes up with Crawford, Bonita and Bailey, three strangers the local sheriff is after. His daughter Caroline, the actor Dexter Broadhurst and the roustabout Sebastian Dinwiddle all tell him to keep his distance from them. The Captain sits in on a crooked card game at a gambling house in town. He loses controlling interest in the showboat, and Crawford and Bonita reopen it as a casino with the games fixed. Dexter and Sebastian look for a way to put the Captain back in charge of his boat.
