Plot summary
After Los Angeles officials agree to review the case of Marilyn Monroe's death, the author of a 1985 book about her begins an inquiry of his own. Over three years he collects 650 recorded interviews with people who knew Monroe or who had knowledge of her death. Actors lip-sync the words on the recordings, which are heard as they were made, alongside archival footage. One of her costars recalls her strong work ethic. The accounts follow Monroe from her start as an actress, through affairs with powerful men who advanced her career, to the poor mental health rooted in her troubled childhood.
