The Mask of Diijon (1946) on Netflix

Plot summary

Victoria, Diijon's wife, is trying to keep the household bills paid while her husband, a magician once ranked among the greats, spends his days on hypnotism rather than on performing. She keeps pressing him to return to the act that made his name, and he refuses for a long time. What he finally agrees to is a hypnotism spot at a nightclub. The audience laughs him off the stage, and Diijon blames Tony Holliday, Victoria's former suitor, for the wreck of it. He comes away from the stage wanting to settle accounts with the people he holds responsible for the laughter.
