Plot summary
Pierre, a pilot, thinks the affair is over; he once had his wife Charlotte followed and confronted her with what the investigator reported. Charlotte meets her lover Robert, an actor, in a Paris apartment he has rented, and he again asks her to leave Pierre and marry him. He drives her to a department store, where she says she will buy bras, but she cuts through and takes taxis to collect Pierre's son Nicolas from school. The two of them meet Pierre at the airport, home from Germany.

- France's censorship board voted 13-5, with two abstentions, to ban Jean-Luc Godard's The Married Woman, objecting that the title implied all married women were adulterous and that the film salaciously illustrated sex scenes.
- Godard changed the title but refused to remove references to concentration camp inmates that Peyrefitte had wanted cut, and censors also removed Monokini footage shot by Jacques Rozier.
- Godard met Venice Film Festival director Luigi Chiarini at Cannes in May 1964 and offered to make a film completed in three months in time to premiere at the festival, which ran from August 27 to September 10.
