Plot summary
A transmission line failure sparks the Camp Fire, which firefighters cannot contain. Kevin McKay drives a school bus in Paradise, California, caring for his disabled mother Sherry and his estranged son Shaun. Ruby Bishop scolds him for returning the bus late. After speaking with Linda, Shaun's mother, Kevin goes back to bring Shaun medicine, leaving him the one driver close enough to reach 22 children stuck at Ponderosa Elementary School. He asks their teacher, Mary Ludwig, to come along, because he wants to get home to Sherry and Shaun, and neither can drive out.
