Plot summary
Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie are staying in the house of Professor Kirke when the four of them walk into an old wardrobe and come out in Narnia. Talking animals, fauns and hags live there, and the White Witch's spell holds the country in winter. Lucy has made a friend of Mr. Tumnus, a faun, who needs rescuing from the Witch. The Professor has talked with Peter and Susan about the truth of the wardrobe, and the four children decide to try to reach Narnia together. Mr. and Mrs. Beaver set out to guide them to Aslan, the great lion, since only he can free the faun. The Witch fears an old prophecy that the children are Narnia's rightful rulers.
