Plot summary

A movie palace designed by John Eberson opens in Tampa, Florida, in 1927. Nearly a hundred years later, a crew gathers former and current employees and fans to record their memories. Jill Witecki, the manager, leads a tour through areas the public does not see, drawing on her knowledge of the building's past, with archival footage. Eberson's account of how the theater was conceived is told in his own words. Rob Mueller, an usher in the 1960s whose father also worked there, describes the people of the theater and visits backstage for the first time in fifty years. John Bohannon, an usher in the 1950s, recalls his years there and the projectionist Fink Finley. The steps of the Tampa Theatre saw a visit by President John F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King staged his first protests in the Tampa area.
