Plot summary
Vinny Durand lives with his mother in New York City and drives a taxi for a living, and he dreams of directing a film with the horror actress Jana Bates in the lead. When Jana is nominated for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, Vinny travels to France hoping to meet her and win her over. Jana arrives with her manager and ex-husband Bret Bates and her boyfriend Alan Cunningham, who produced her film, and Vinny is turned away when he tries to approach her. Threatening notes reach Jana and the people around her, and friends in her circle begin to turn up dead while Vinny follows her with his camera.

- The Last Horror Film was shot on location at the actual Cannes Film Festival with no permits at first; the Cannes city council only issued one partway through the shoot.
- Portions of The Last Horror Film's gore were excised from the original 35 mm negatives, leaving it a partially lost film that survived mainly on some home video editions. A complete print of the original cut was found at La Cinémathèque Française in 2023 and used by Severin Films for a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release.
