Plot summary
On December 18, 1334, Sir Cole takes part in Norwich's annual Christmas hawking competition and, in the woods, meets an old crone and offers to accompany her to shelter. She thanks him and hands him a medallion that glows blue, telling him that she will send him to a faraway place where he must finish a knightly errand before midnight on Christmas Eve, though she never says what it is. He arrives in Bracebridge, Ohio, in 2019, where high school science teacher Brooke, disillusioned by love, accidentally hits him with her car. At the hospital, Officer Stevens takes him for a man with amnesia, since he has no identification and calls himself a medieval knight. Brooke offers him her guest home while he recovers, and he learns about radios, diners, television and Alexa.
