Plot summary
Annie Laird is a sculptor living in New York City with her son Oliver; she also works as a data entry clerk. She is chosen to sit on the jury for the trial of Louie Boffano, a crime boss accused of ordering the deaths of a federal informant, his wife, and their child. Mark Cordell, a wealthy tourist, buys some of Annie's art and takes her out before she realizes he is 'The Teacher,' Boffano's enforcer who carried out those killings. Cordell tells Annie that unless she convinces the other jurors to acquit Boffano, she and Oliver will be killed. Another gangster, Eddie, then sends Cordell's car over a cliff with a body inside, adding to the pressure on Annie to put her son's safety before the truth.
