Plot summary

Jayne Mansfield sells popcorn at a theater and raises her daughter Jayne Marie alone, since the girl's father left over her acting ambition. On the street she talks talent agent Bob Garrett into arranging an audition for a one-line part. At the audition she reads from Come Back, Little Sheba rather than the line she is handed, and does not get the role. Garrett tells her to lose weight and restyle her hair, and she answers that she will play an airheaded blonde until her career gets going, then switch to serious parts. A month later, blonde in a pink polka-dot dress, she meets him at a car dealership and receives a pink Cadillac as promotion. She hands out Christmas presents at a press club in a white fur-trimmed bikini, and at a Florida pool pretends to fall in.
