Plot summary

Mayor JB lives in the town of Solby with his friends Mitcho the cat and Sebastian the elephant. The vice mayor, Twig, has long wanted a town hall of his own, and when JB vanishes, Twig takes charge and raises the building, cutting the sun off from the town. Mitcho and Sebastian then find a bottle by the harbor: JB writes that he has ended up on a mysterious island. A seed in the letter grows into a giant pear, and Professor Glykose fits the pear out as a home. Knocked into the water, the pear carries Mitcho, Sebastian and Glykose out to sea in search of JB, and the pirates they meet warn them about the island.
