Plot summary
John Kinsdale is an American computer specialist stationed in Naples, where he lives with his wife and two children. Searching for a housekeeper, he calls the number in an advertisement in a local English-language newspaper. He returns from work to find his family murdered. The deaths nearly drive him to suicide, but a television report turns him toward avenging them. After the funeral, Inspector Lupo of the Carabinieri tells him that hair at the scene points to a redheaded man between 25 and 45. Kinsdale takes embassy credentials from Lupo. Another American family is then killed in the same manner.
