Plot summary
A documentary account of the French Revolution, from the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, when a Paris crowd seized the King's military stores, through the decade of revolution that followed. Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, Maximilien Robespierre and Napoleon Bonaparte are among the leading figures at its center. Dramatic reenactments of the period's events are combined with illustrations and paintings made at the time, along with accounts drawn from journals kept during the period and commentary from historians. It traces how a revolt against the old order in France brought an end to feudalism and opened the way to equality and a republican government.
