Plot summary
Darren Nicholls is a police informant traveling with Mickey Steele and Jack Whomes as they bring drugs into Essex by sea. He has told D.I. Stone about the shipment. Steele anticipates trouble and has Whomes carry the contraband off on a separate boat, so the drugs still arrive in Essex. Nicholls, who narrates, says the three of them supply Tony Tucker, a drug dealer in the county. Tucker's right-hand man is Craig Rolfe, and Patrick "Pat" Tate is the third core member of the gang known as the Essex Boys.
