Plot summary
Nikki Lostrom is a recent widow whose husband, Garret, drowned. She has not gotten over him, and reminders of their life together still weigh on her. Resigned to being alone, she visits an art gallery they often went to and sees a man who looks strikingly like Garret. Nikki keeps coming back to the gallery, hoping to encounter him again. She learns that he is Tom, a college professor in the area, and she goes to his art class. The encounter overwhelms her and she leaves. Once she calms down, Nikki asks Tom to tutor her in painting. She never tells him that he resembles her late husband. Her neighbor Roger, who was Garret's friend, has hoped to attract her since Garret's death.
