Plot summary
A British expedition sets out for the summit of Mount Everest in 1924, with George Mallory and Andrew Irvine climbing higher than any party before them. The expedition's official photographer records the attempt in the harshest conditions, using specially adapted equipment. He had tried and failed to reach Everest through Tibet in 1913, and he financed the film himself. Publicity around the film's release stirred a diplomatic incident that delayed later expeditions.
