Plot summary
Dr. Henry Armitage lectures on local history at Miskatonic University in Arkham, Massachusetts, and hands the rare Necronomicon to his student Nancy Wagner. A stranger named Wilbur Whateley follows her and asks to read the book, and she allows it, though the library is closing and the volume is said to be unique. Armitage interrupts them, warning her about the Whateley family. Nancy ignores him and drives Wilbur to Dunwich after he misses his bus on purpose.
