Tae-seok is a professional player of baduk, the board game known in the West as Go. A high-stakes match of baduk against Sal-soo, an infamous underground gambler, goes badly. Tae-seok is then framed for killing his own brother and sent to prison. He serves seven years there, training ferociously and vowing to avenge him. Once his sentence ends, he looks up his brother's former associate, Tricks, and The Lord, a blind master player who lives as a hermit, and Mok-su, a junkyard owner called the Carpenter. Together they begin to plan how to get back at Sal-soo and the men around him.
