Plot summary

Gu-nam is an ethnic Korean in Yanji, in China's Yanbian Prefecture, where he drives a taxi and spends his free time in gambling halls. His debts have grown large. His wife went to South Korea to work and promised to send money home, but she has stopped answering, and dreams of her with another man disturb his sleep. When he is fired and collectors seize most of his severance money, the gangster Myun Jung-hak makes him an offer. Gu-nam can travel to South Korea, kill a professor named Kim Seung-hyun, and earn the equivalent of ten thousand dollars. He thinks of his young daughter and accepts, crossing by train and a small fishing boat with five hundred dollars for expenses. In South Korea he watches the professor's apartment building while searching for his wife.
