Plot summary
Adèlle has come to Wales with her teenage daughter Sarah to visit her husband James, and to mend what has gone wrong between mother and daughter. On a cliff walk they find a memorial whose plate is missing, with the word Annwyn on it. Dafydd, a local man, tells them that in Welsh mythology Annwyn is the realm of the dead. Sarah then vanishes in the sea, and a girl named Ebrill turns up in her place, bearing a strong resemblance to her. Ebrill is the long-dead child of a shepherd who preached in the town fifty years before. Adèlle searches for a way to reach Annwyn and win Sarah back.
