Plot summary
Jean-Pierre Werner is the doctor for a stretch of French countryside. The people there depend on him, and he examines, treats and reassures them day and night, every day of the week. When he finds out he has an inoperable brain tumor, his own doctor advises retirement and rest. Nathalie Delezia, who has been working in a city hospital, arrives to assist him with the practice. Jean-Pierre has given his life to the practice and regards himself as indispensable, so the arrangement unsettles him. Nathalie has to adapt to this new life, and she is the one expected to replace him.
