Plot summary
May 6, 2007. The country is voting, and Nicolas Sarkozy has shut himself in his home. He spends the day trying to get in touch with Cécilia, without success. The story then turns back over the five years that led there. In 2002, Jacques Chirac makes him interior minister as part of Jean-Pierre Raffarin's government, and he gradually makes a name for himself and decides to prepare to succeed Chirac. He faces rivalry from Dominique de Villepin, the foreign minister, and the years carry backstage maneuvering, fits of anger and confrontations, along with attention to his private life: Cécilia's romance with Richard Attias and his own affair with the journalist Anne Fulda.
