Plot summary
Over eight years the documentary traces the Beatles' career, from early appearances at the Cavern Club through their concert tours, their work in films and their recording sessions. Performance footage from early concerts sits beside material showing how the group's albums were put together. The film gathers interviews with people who were close to the band, among them the producer George Martin, their first manager, Allan Williams, the Cavern Club DJ Bob Wooler, the music writer Bill Harry, and musicians Gerry Marsden, Billy J. Kramer, Marianne Faithfull, Billy Preston, Lenny Kaye and Tony Sheridan. Archival conversations with members of the group and with their manager, Brian Epstein, are included. Authors Nicholas Schaffner and Wilfrid Mellers give their views, and footage of the band's fans appears.
