Plot summary
Andrew Manson is a newly qualified Scottish doctor who arrives in Blaenelly, a Welsh mining village where the miners suffer from tuberculosis. He is idealistic and has scientific goals, and he works as an apprentice to Dr. Page. He tries to find out what causes the disease, but he meets resistance from the local people. The miners destroy his laboratory and his notes.
