Plot summary

A war veteran named Mizuki, employed at a blood bank, travels to Yagura Village on a secret errand: to mourn the dead head of his family. The village is controlled by the Ryuga clan, a family that directs Japanese politics and business from behind the scenes and is the source of a mysterious medicine called M. There Mizuki meets Medama Oyaji, Kitaro's father, who has come to the village to search for his missing wife. The Ryuga relatives, meanwhile, are locked in a bitter fight over who will inherit the position of clan head. Then one of the family is murdered at the village shrine.
