Plot summary

Ōarai Girls' Academy competes in the Winter Continuous Track Cup, aiming to show that Momo Kawashima, its commander, is skilled at Sensha-dō so she can be accepted into university. Miho Nishizumi has stepped down to vice-commander. The team's next opponent is Chihatan Gakuen, which has borrowed hit-and-run tactics from Ōarai's own matches and mixes them with amphibious assaults. Once Chihatan reorganizes, it presses Ōarai again with those raids. Chihatan's commander, Kinuyo Nishi, chooses Anglerfish Team, the tank Miho commands, as the target, believing that knocking it out will damage Ōarai's morale. The Ōarai tank teams are pulled apart in the chaos, and the battlefield breaks into several separate fights.

Screenwriter Reiko Yoshida said the sequel was first intended to be an original video animation; when it became a six-part film series she wrote the script backwards, starting from the last film and finishing with the first, to adjust the story's overall length.
Production on Girls und Panzer das Finale: Part 3 carried on through the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2020, with director Tsutomu Mizushima saying the staff had begun editing the film and were preparing for the cast's dialogue recording.
The first Girls und Panzer das Finale film, Part 1, was completed in December 2017 only four days before it was released.
For Part 4, Studio Katyusha used 3DCG for about 800 cuts and Unreal Engine for another 600 or more cuts.
