- The law student is played on screen by Barbet Schroeder but dubbed by Bertrand Tavernier, whose voice Éric Rohmer judged better suited to the film's very literary voice-over, which carries most of the running time.
- Because there was no money to hire an on-set audio engineer, Rohmer shot the film without sound, as he did his other early works: dialogue was kept on a scratch track, re-recorded in post-production, and all background noises recreated.
- For the Six Moral Tales, Rohmer filmed only in the time and place each story was set and used no sets at all, a realism he wanted but which was also forced by lack of money.
- The Bakery Girl of Monceau was the first of Éric Rohmer's Six Moral Tales, a series that went on to consist of two shorts and four feature films.
