Plot summary
Seven friends in Stoneybrook make up the Babysitting Club, and its president, Kristy Thomas, opens the summer by proposing a day camp for the children they sit for. Stepsisters Mary Anne Spier and Dawn Schafer offer their parents' backyard, on the condition that the children stay out of the house and the barn. Next door, Mrs. Haberman objects to the camp and wants it closed. Claudia Kishi has failed science and must pass summer school or leave the club. Stacey McGill has a crush on Luca, a seventeen-year-old from Switzerland. Mary Anne's boyfriend Logan Bruno draws the attention of Cokie Mason, and Mallory Pike and Jessi Ramsey struggle with the children's behavior. Kristy's father, Patrick, returns to town and asks her to keep his visit secret.
