Plot summary
Spencer Armacost is a NASA astronaut, and his wife Jillian teaches second grade. On a mission, he and Alex Streck walk outside the spacecraft to repair a damaged satellite when an explosion cuts their communication with the command center for two minutes. Both men come back and both wake in a hospital; Spencer recovers without trouble, while Alex needs an electrical cardioversion. Neither will talk about what happened outside. Spencer takes a position with a New York company, McLaren, and at a farewell party Alex's aggressive behavior draws Jillian's attention. She notices other changes in her husband over time. A former NASA employee dismissed for insisting that something was wrong with Spencer approaches her, and she learns that she is pregnant with twins.
