Plot summary
Brief excerpts from dozens of horror, suspense and thriller films, made between the 1930s and the early 1980s, are cut together and arranged by theme. Two hosts introduce the segments and comment on them, covering loathsome villains, sex and terror, natural terror, cosmic terror, the occult and spoofs. The villains shown include Dracula and Frankenstein, alongside killers from slasher films, animals, creatures and supernatural forces. A few excerpts come from crime thrillers whose antagonists were considered frightening enough to include. The newest clip comes from a film released in 1983, and nothing released after it was considered. Between the clips, brief enacted scenes show moviegoers in a theater, and one segment presents a filmmaker explaining how suspense is built.
