Plot summary
Sydney White, a tomboy raised by her plumber father, arrives at Southern Atlantic University to pledge Kappa, the sorority her late mother belonged to. The sisterhood is not what it was, and its head, student council president Rachel Witchburn, checks a website ranking the hottest on campus and is always number one. Sydney becomes friends with a fellow pledge, Dinky Hotchkiss, and meets Tyler Prince, who heads a popular fraternity and is Rachel's on-off boyfriend. A Kappa initiation ritual sends the freshmen out at midnight to find dates, and Sydney turns up with Lenny, one of the social outcasts known as the seven dorks, who share a run-down house called the Vortex. Rachel has Sydney rejected from Kappa on a false claim that she lied about her background. Sydney leaves in the rain, and the seven dorks welcome her.
