Plot summary
Two men lure a couple away from an abandoned house on church property with a prank, then go inside, where something in the dark turns on them. The killings bring the police to the parish, where an inspector shares his worries with the new clergyman, David Thompson: the house is a dumping ground, and the pond beside it has drowned swimmers. The caretaker, Arlen, who lives in a bungalow with his mother Elvira, is suspected. When Thompson announces plans to drain the pond, Arlen flees, and Elvira says her son serves a mistress. Before the building can be blessed, Reverend Maier dies in an accident with a table saw blade. The Leahy family moves in as guests of the church.
