Plot summary
Don 'Vossie' Vorster is about to set off for Stellenbosch University, and his proud father hands him a box. Inside is a slightly tatty black bowtie, a tradition passed down through the generations: the eldest son of the Vorster family may wear it once he finishes high school. Wearing it gives him nerve to defend what matters to him, and he is ready to court the girl of his dreams. Willemien de la Harpe takes the eccentric, bowtie-wearing Vossie home, where her life is turned upside down as he lands in a household far different from his own and lives through many awkward moments.
