Plot summary

Stephanie lives alone in her family's house, left behind when her parents went away. A toy turtle is her only company, and she hides indoors from a dark supernatural force that stalks the place. News broadcasts allude to an apocalyptic event elsewhere in the world, but Stephanie channel-surfs past them toward Despereaux, Equestria Girls and Friendship is Magic, and she holds tea parties for her stuffed animals. Her parents, Eric and Jane, come back and apologize for having gone away, then try to resume a normal life. Eric carries a gun in his belt, and Jane has large scars across her stomach.
