Plot summary
In 1880, a stagecoach sets out east from Tonto, Arizona Territory, bound for Lordsburg, New Mexico Territory. The passengers are strangers to one another, and several of them are keeping secrets. Dallas, a prostitute, is being run out of town. Doc Holliday is a dentist with a drinking problem. Lucy Mallory is pregnant and traveling to meet her husband, a cavalry officer. Trevor Peacock sells whiskey. Marshal Curly Wilcox has a prisoner in his charge, Hatfield is a gambler, Henry Gatewood is a banker, and Buck drives the coach. Lieutenant Blanchard reports that Geronimo and his Apache warriors have taken to the warpath, and his small cavalry troop will escort the coach as far as Dry Fork.
