Plot summary
In 1943, during the Japanese occupation of Korea, fourteen-year-old Jung-min lives with her family in poverty, and sixteen-year-old Young-hee cares for her younger brothers after their parents died in the war. Japanese soldiers take both girls from their homes and allow them only minutes to say goodbye and pack their clothes. Livestock wagons carry them to Manchuria, where they are forced to serve soldiers of the Imperial Army as comfort women. The girls may speak only Japanese.
