Plot summary
In Phoenix, Arizona, four Mexican students attend Carl Hayden High School. Oscar Vazquez tries to join the U.S. Army and is turned away because of his immigration status. He learns of an underwater robotics competition sponsored by NASA and the military. Fredi Cameron, an engineer with a PhD who is between jobs, is hired as a substitute teacher and assigned to run an engineering club. Vazquez asks him to help build a remotely operated robot. Cristian Arcega leads the technical side, Lorenzo Santillan and Luis Aranda join, and the club gathers spare parts and donations.
