Plot summary
In rural Mississippi, gay residents have bars of their own: Rumors, in Shannon, and Different Seasons/Crossroads, in Meridian. The visits to the two small Mississippi towns are built around those two bars. The men and women who speak there describe the ignorance, hypocrisy and oppression they meet in the Deep South, and the risks of being openly gay in small Southern towns. The national debate over gay marriage concerns them far less than the dangers of their own daily lives. A third stop takes the film to Bay Minette, Alabama, where the hate crime killing of Scotty Joe Weaver is examined.
