Plot summary
Stuart Conway is a socially awkward scientist who has built Slipstream, a hand-held gadget shaped like a cellphone. It sends whoever uses it ten minutes into the past by connecting to a regional cellphone antenna. He has spent his time on one goal: getting a bank teller to go out with him, which has not worked. On the last occasion he tries the device, a gang led by Winston Briggs storms the bank and demands the vault money. Sarah Tanner, an FBI agent, and her partner Jake are inside the branch, following Stuart. Tanner fires at the robbers despite Jake's warning. She and Jake have pistols; the robbers have automatic weapons.
