Plot summary
Two groups of instructors share the All Valley Ski School, and they have never gotten along. Section 1 is the refined crowd, led by Reid Janssens with Derek Stevens and Erich Blor at his side. Section 8 is the hard-partying outfit run by champion skier Dave Marshak, whose circle includes Fitz Fitzgerald and Ed Young. Into this comes John Roland from Montana, carrying a letter of recommendation for Section 1. Reid, wary of the newcomer, sends him to Section 8, where his skiing wins the partiers over. At a party for an upcoming competition, John meets Lori, a woman he crossed paths with on arrival. The mountain's owner, Anton Bryce, has little patience for Section 8's mischief, and Dave is already plotting pranks against Section 1.

- Ski School was sold to producers on the strength of its title and a mockup movie poster alone, before a script was written and before any actors had been cast. Dean Cameron said the filmmakers were then given five months to make the movie to secure the financing.
- John was intended to be the lead character of Ski School until actor Tom Bresnahan was injured while skiing, after which Dave Marshak was elevated to the lead role instead.
- Stuart Fratkin, who played Fitz, initially read for the lead role but lost the job to Dean Cameron. Fratkin wrote that he hesitated to accept the offer to play Fitz until his agent secured second billing for him.
- The Ski School soundtrack features two songs by the band Lock Up, a late-1980s outfit with Tom Morello on guitar, predating his fame with Rage Against the Machine.
- Much of the comedy in Ski School was improvised or else written by the actors themselves, according to Dean Cameron and his co-star Stuart Fratkin.
- Ski School was filmed at ski resorts in Oregon and Whistler, British Columbia. Dean Cameron said the springtime shoot let them make the film on a modest budget because they "got May rates".
