Plot summary
Mumbai's new Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bajirao Singham, deals with injustice by force. When a member of his team, Mahesh Jadhav, is found dead in an ambulance with bags of money beside him, Singham sets out to find who is behind it. His inquiry brings him up against Satyaraj Babaji Chander, a religious leader with money to spread and friends in the ruling party, among them the minister Prakash Rao. Singham's own old teacher, Gurukant Guruji Acharya, now a veteran of the ruling party, opposes Rao's scheme. In Shivgarh, his hometown, Singham's father Manikrao lives, and his childhood friend Avni Kamat is from there too.

- Before the film's release on 15 August 2014, the right-wing Hindu organisation HJS wrote to the CBFC asking that Singham Returns be banned, saying its depiction of Hindu saints in a bad light hurt religious sentiments. Director Rohit Shetty denied the allegation, saying he had never made anything controversial in his career.
