Plot summary
Kim Levitt edits classified ads at the L.A. Eye, where her boss Eli reserves the good assignments for men, her boyfriend Hank among them. After a woman is found dead on the sidewalk, her body half consumed by fire in what looks like spontaneous combustion, Kim chases the story on her own. At a butcher shop called Munn Fresh Meat, Jo tells her the woman probably reached the roof through the apartments. In a used bookstore, Fima gives her a book on feminism and the occult. At a picnic Fima hosts, Kim meets Katherine Harrison and Jane Yanana, who speak of Lilith, Adam's first wife and a spirit of crawling things.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Silent Night Deadly Night 4: Initiation (1990)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- A camera malfunction discovered in the dailies after principal photography had wrapped forced key sequences to be reshot, including the finale set on a building rooftop. Because the production's lease on the building had expired, the rooftop finale was shot on a soundstage with a constructed rooftop.
- LIVE Entertainment pushed to cast Maud Adams as the coven leader Fima because she was recognizable from playing two Bond girls in The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) and Octopussy (1983).
- Director Brian Yuzna filled the film with simulacra, optical illusions such as a ceiling water stain and tree twigs that resemble faces, to give it a surreal look and a sense of reality bending as the lead character's story arc progresses.
- Brian Yuzna reworked Woody Keith's screenplay to add the coven's devotion to Lilith, the Biblical first wife of Adam who was banished from Eden and later became a figure of women's liberation in late-20th-century feminism.
- Brian Yuzna said he was not interested in highlighting the Christmas elements of the previous films, later regretted it, and tried to atone by producing the next sequel, Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker (1991).
